Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a prescription injection that temporarily stops muscle movement or blocks the transmission of nerve signals. Botox has many uses. However, many people turn to Botox as a quick and effective treatment to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.

Every time you laugh, frown, or squint, your facial muscles fold your skin. As you age, your skin thins and loses its elasticity because of a decline in collagen production. These structural changes make it harder for your skin to “unfold” after your laugh or frown, creating more permanent lines and wrinkles.

Botox temporarily stops the facial muscle movement that causes the folding, giving your skin the time it needs to relax and smooth out.

Am I a candidate for Botox?

Kara and the team at Luxe Medical Aesthetics determine if you’re a candidate for Botox after a consultation. During this visit, the team reviews your current health concerns and medical history and answers all of your questions about Botox.

When considering whether Botox is right for you, the team needs to know if you have:

  • Pre-existing skin conditions
  • Allergies
  • A fear of needles

They also review your current medical care plans.

If you have moderate to severe crow’s feet, frown lines, or forehead wrinkles, the team may consider Botox a good treatment option. Luxe Medical Aesthetics uses different brands of Botox for these injections, including Jeaveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®.

What happens during Botox treatments?

Botox treatments at Luxe Medical Aesthetics take about 15 minutes, depending on how many injections you need. The aesthetic experts use a superfine needle and inject the medication in small amounts in very specific areas to get the desired look.

You may feel a slight pinching sensation during the injection, but the pain is fleeting and well-tolerated by most people. The team may recommend a series of Botox treatments to get your desired results.

What is the recovery time following Botox?

You may have some mild soreness following your Botox session, but there’s no recovery time following the aesthetic treatment. The team provides specific instructions on how to care for your skin following your treatment to keep it as healthy and youthful as possible.

You may see improvements in your look about two days after the injections, but it takes two or more weeks to get the full effects. Botox results last 3-6 months.
