PDO Thread Lift Q & A

What is a PDO thread lift?

A polydioxanone (PDO) thread lift is a nonsurgical facelift. Instead of a scalpel, the aesthetic experts at Luxe Medical Aesthetics use special sutures, PDO threads, to lift and tighten your skin.

PDO threads are biodegradable sutures surgeons have been using for decades. In addition to lifting and tightening your skin, PDO thread lifts stimulate your skin’s collagen production, restoring its natural strength and elasticity. This helps prolong the results of the nonsurgical facelift.

There are three types of PDO threads:

PDO cog threads

PDO cog threads have barbs that latch into the skin, lifting various parts of the face.

PDO mono threads

PDO mono threads are smooth threads that stimulate collagen production, rejuvenating your skin and prolonging the results of your lift.

PDO screw threads

PDO screw threads are intertwined threads that aim to restore your skin’s natural volume by rebuilding collagen.

What happens during a PDO thread lift?

The Luxe Medical Aesthetics team customizes your PDO thread lift based on your specific beauty needs and goals. They review the details of your procedure at your consultation, so you know what to expect.

While sitting in a reclining chair in the treatment room, your provider prepares your skin with alcohol and a topical anesthetic. Your provider uses a thin needle or cannula (tube-like needle) to insert the threads under your skin to achieve the desired look.

The procedure takes 30-45 minutes, and you can drive yourself home afterward. You may have some swelling and bruising for a day or two following your PDO thread lift, but most patients return to their usual activities immediately.

The Luxe Medical Aesthetics team gives you specific care instructions for home to ensure proper healing.

Am I a candidate for the PDO thread lift?

Schedule an appointment at Luxe Medical Aesthetics to see if you’re a candidate for the PDO thread lift. A PDO thread lift might work for you if you have moderate skin aging and sagging that the team can’t fix with cosmetic injections.

The team may also recommend the PDO thread lift if you have more severe facial sagging, but you’re not a candidate for a surgical facelift.

With the PDO thread lift, the team can treat most aging areas of the face, including:

  • Cheeks
  • Eyes
  • Jaw
  • Neck

Results from the PDO thread lift are immediate and last a year or more.
